1. When Mildred and Montag read the books Montag said "maybe the books can get us out of the cave . They just might stop us from making the same damn mistakes!" I think Montag took the books more seriously that Mildred does.
2. In the first section of the book they made it seam as the jet bombers where some kind of symbol of how Montag felt when Mildred overdose and in the second section it seemed like they were actually real and outside flying around.
